Native Trees Arriving In Linn County: Planting Forward Is Underway
Aug 28, 2025
Monarch Research’s Planting Forward program is underway, helping Linn County rebuild its tree canopy with native species. Through local partners, many employees can order free trees this fall—restoring habitat, supporting pollinators, and strengthening our community one tree at a time.

This fall, Monarch Research’s Planting Forward program is once again helping Linn County rebuild its tree canopy after the devastating 2020 derecho. Through local business and school partners, employees are invited to order up to three native trees—free of charge—to plant at their homes and in their communities.
The goal is bigger than replanting what was lost. By focusing on native species, especially oaks, the program helps restore critical habitat for pollinators, birds, and wildlife while ensuring the trees we plant today will thrive for decades to come.
Since its launch, Planting Forward has already distributed more than 100,000 native trees across eastern Iowa. With the fall planting season underway, now is the time to get involved and help create a stronger, healthier canopy for the future.
