A Milestone of Hope: Celebrating 100,000 Native Trees in Linn County!
What an incredible journey we've shared, Linn County! On November 3rd, we gathered to celebrate a monumental achievement that represents so much more than just numbers – we've planted 100,000 native trees, healing our landscape one sapling at a time.
Our Roots Run Deep
Who can forget the devastating derecho of 2020? When over 75% of our tree canopy was destroyed and 8,000 homes were damaged? What could have been a story of loss has transformed into a powerful narrative of community resilience and environmental restoration.
A Community United
Our Celebration of Trees and Nature wasn't just an event – it was a testament to the incredible spirit of Linn County. From families to local partners, everyone came together with one shared vision: rebuilding our green infrastructure and supporting native ecosystems.
Why Native Trees Matter
As we learned from Doug Tallamy, these aren't just trees – they're lifelines. Native trees have evolved alongside our local wildlife, providing critical habitats for pollinators, birds, and countless species that call Iowa home. Each oak, each native species we plant is a cornerstone of environmental health.
Looking Forward
While we've celebrated 100,000 trees, our work isn't done. We're continuing our Planting Forward initiative, moving forward with the Native Oasis pilot, and will soon announce another route to native restoration.
Together, we're not just planting trees – we're planting a sustainable future for Linn County one mighty oak at a time!
