Monarch Research was recently featured on KCRG-TV9, highlighting local efforts to restore habitat and support pollinators across our community. As that momentum continues, ordering is now open for our One Child, One Tree and Woodlands programs - making it easy to plant native trees and be part of something bigger.

Monarch Research was recently featured on KCRG-TV9 in recognition of Arbor Day and the work being done locally to restore native habitat and support pollinators. In that same spirit, we’re excited to share that our One Child, One Tree and Woodlands Native Tree Marketplace programs are now open!

Learn About the Tree Programs from the Monarch Research Project (KCRG)

Our work focuses on rebuilding native ecosystems right here in Linn County - spaces where monarch butterflies, pollinators, and wildlife can thrive again. That means planting native trees, establishing pollinator habitats, and creating opportunities for people to take part in something tangible and lasting.

It’s not one big moment - it’s thousands of small ones adding up. That’s exactly what One Child, One Tree and Woodlands programs are designed to support.

One Child, One Tree

One Child, One Tree is about creating a lasting connection - between children, families, and the natural world.

Through this program, parents and grandparents in Linn County can receive a complimentary native tree for up to five children or grandchildren. Each tree becomes something a child can grow up alongside, while also contributing to cleaner air, healthier soil, and expanded habitat for pollinators and wildlife.

It’s a simple way to be part of something bigger - one tree, one child, and a stronger, more connected landscape for the future.

Woodlands Native Tree Marketplace

Our Woodlands program is all about making native tree planting accessible.

Through this program, Linn County residents can purchase high-quality 3-gallon native trees for just $25 each - a price set intentionally at cost to remove barriers. Whether you’re adding a few trees or planning a larger project, Woodlands makes it easier to plant native trees on your property.

Each tree is carefully selected to thrive in Iowa’s landscape and to support pollinators and wildlife. By prioritizing native species, the program helps rebuild a more resilient tree canopy - one that benefits both individual properties and the broader ecosystem.

Be Part of It

The ordering windows for One Child, One Tree and Woodlands Native Tree Marketplace programs are open now through July 24.

If you’ve been looking for a way to get involved, this is a great place to start. Whether you’re planting one tree or many, you’re contributing to a healthier, more connected landscape for future generations.
